I'm Nancy Gavin and I have always felt a special kinship with animals, especially cats. My professional career started in the corporate world where I worked as a desktop publisher for a number of years. I then moved to the nonprofit sector where I worked for churches for fifteen years, including eight years as Director of Parish Ministries in a United Methodist Church. After moving from Maryland to the mountains of North Carolina, I worked for over two years as Executive Director of a food pantry serving a special needs population. I realized that I'm at the point in my life where I don't want to be an Executive Director of anything except my own life and since my greatest joy comes from caring for cats, I should start a pet sitting business, specializing in cat care.
In addition to caring for animals, I love gardening organically, camping, hiking and reading. I have been growing catnip for my own cats for many years and I now share homegrown, organic catnip with my kitty clients! Since moving to this area, I am starting to grow and use herbs medicinally and foraging for wild foods on my property and in the surrounding woods.
In Maryland, I practiced horticultural therapy with the elderly and started a gardening club in an assisted living facility. I volunteered with Animal Rescue, Inc. on the Cat Care Team at the Bel Air Petsmart and I now volunteer for Mountain Pet Rescue AVL on the Cat Care Team at the Asheville Petsmart. I volunteer with the John D. Wilson Community Garden in Black Mountain, at the United Research Light Center, and with Four Seasons Hospice. My life is fulfilled through service to others, both the two-legged and four-legged!
